FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS)
Q: Tammy, I do not understand the initials behind your name. Would you explain those?
MHR means Master's of Human Relations Counseling. I earned a Masters degree (also called a Graduate degree) in Human Relations with an emphasis in Counseling. This means that I completed all the academic requirements to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. As my journey changed, I opted not to obtain the licensure required for Counseling. So I have all the education and experience of a Counselor, but I am unlicensed (you can read more about this on other pages).
This is a general description of my degree:

Q: Tammy, I do not understand the term Holistic. I've met people who call themselves "holistic" and they are kind of flaky and weird. Would you explain what you mean?
A: First, let me say we are all a little flaky and weird. Wouldn't you agree? For me, the term means whole person. I am concerned with what's going on with you completely (mind, body, spirit). We will explore things in a whole new way together. I actually use a combination of approaches to help you feel better.
Q: Your business name is really cool. How did you come up with it?
A: Thank you! I love our name. Here's the back story. Are you ready? My favorite band is: The Doors. The Doors were named after an essay called The Doors of Perception. This was actually released as a book by Aldous Huxley. It happened to be about a drug trip. If you know anything about me, you will know that I detest recreational drugs (and I'm not to crazy about the rest of them either). NOW, this doesn't mean I detest the people who have issues with them. I detest that they create issues for the people who use them. Anyway.....I still loved the name. When my health took a turn for the worse between 2000-2012, I didn't think I would survive. Once I made it through that, I decided I wanted to change my thoughts from focusing on Illness to focusing on Wellness. Since I loved The Doors and I loved the title Doors of Perception, naming my business The Doors of Wellness only seemed right! I wanted to offer people different "doors" into their own wellness.
Q: That logo. What was the inspiration for that?
A: It is great, right?!? My husband and I wanted a logo that reflected us, as a couple and as a business. We chose green to represent nature. The leaves also represent growth. In our business and our life, we use essential oils (made from plants), we use herbal medicine (made from plants), we work toward using seasonal, organic, local and unprocessed foods (from the earth) and we believe in growth. If you look closely at the branch around the name, it's the letter C, which stands for Coin. The two "o's" in Doors represent our wedding rings. Then the two "l's" in Wellness represent the doors for our clients.
